Fabric wreath and Fabric Swap Delights

Having a whole 10 days off paid work has been so great, in that I have finally found the time to start crafting and sewing again. I wanted to make something with a wire wreath. At Christmas I went a bit mad and brought a bulk order of twelve wire wreaths and only used 4 of them! I decided to make a fabric wreath,
I had seen a similar wreath on the fabulous sewing blog Flossie teacakes showcased here on the Saints and Pinners blog. It shows instructions on how to make one (if you fancy it) NB: If you need a wire wreath send me a message and I will post you one!

They really are are so easy to make, and a great way to use up all your fabric scraps, if you do not have spare fabric, you could use an old pillow case or an old baby cot sheet. My two children loved cutting the fabric and tying them around the wire wreath.
You can be as neat or slap dash as you like with the arrangement of the fabric!
I have the wreath up above hanging on the window in my sewing/dining room.

I also received my first ever fabric swap in the post, organised by the lovely Very Berry handmade. Basically you are linked up to another swap partner and they send you fabric and you send someone else some fabric. It felt like Christmas when I opened up the parcel, and seeing all the lovely delights inside.

Inside were some beautiful crochet ribbon, and some very cute Easter egg ribbon.

Some gorgeous spring fabric, including this sweet strawberry fabric.

And this pile of lovely oranges and red fabrics. I think I am going to make some Easter egg pouches for my family and the children.

They were all given to me by the lovely Izabela over at Isamo Crochet
Thank you very much!

NB: Very Berry Handmade are now doing a Spring scrap swap, here is the link if you fancy joining in!

Sewing central. A gift for my son.

It has been sewing central here at the Hazel and Blue household over the last few days. The lovely Saints and Pinners fabric I brought just before Christmas has been sitting and waiting patiently whilst I have been busy with other things.
The beautiful colours finally won over and I had to make something with them.

I wanted to sew something for my Son. It needed to be boy-like and not too girlie, (as he is going through a phase of resisting anything pink.) I decided to make a pencil case, using the brown and blue fabric, madly hoping this would appeal to his taste. Although I suspect if I covered it with Ben 10 and footballs this would be more up his street!

I love sewing Zips on to fabric and I have found a really easy way to do this using the Zipper foot, and clever maneuvering of the zip when sewing on to the fabric. I love the fabric in the lining of this case!

Being a fair Mum, I could not make one for one and not the other, so I made this lovely pouch for my youngest, using this beautiful soft cord material, found at my local haberdashery.

I could not resist adding a pink satin ribbon on the cord handle!

I have such joy when making these for the children. I have a tendency to sneakily take them off the children and display them on my wooden console table in the sewing room and look at them lovingly for days!
I suppose its the appreciation of the work and love that goes into making them.
PS By the way they both loved the gifts. The Pencil case even got a smile!

Just a quick note to say thank you for all your lovely comments recently, they can really make my day and I appreciate each and every one of them!

Pink fabric wreath and snow!

We have been excitingly showered with snow in the last 24 hours and it has been magical! Both my two children have been so excited and have loved playing in the snow. There has been conversations of sledges and snowman amongst the Mums and Dads in the neighbourhood today (even a small mention of school closures), but alas for now the snow has stopped.

I have had such lovely comments about the ribbon wreaths I have been making, that I have decided to make some more. This time I have used fabric strips instead if ribbon. I love to co-ordinate all the colours, so there is some sort of colour pattern the eye can follow.
I had kept a parcel bag full of strips, end bits of fabric, discarded from my sewing projects and greedily used these for the fabric wreath. I had lots of pale pinks and pastel light greens left over fabric which I feel compliment and look nice together. I find making wreaths, quite a cathartic process, choosing, cutting and applying the fabric/ribbon strips around the wire base of the frame is very relaxing.
To hang with, I used a beautiful double sided baby pink ribbon.

Lots of gingham, stripes and spots. I think this would like lovely in a girls bedroom.

My next wreath I am working on is a Red Christmas one, using lots of different styles of red ribbons, so far (I am about half way) it looks very festive and what with the snow today, its putting me in the Christmas spirit!
I have been crafty busy the last few days, not only making the above but also lavender hearts, ornament Christmas trees, and a green gingham purse- phew! I really do enjoy making these things and feel so pleased when I see the finished piece. Both Mister Blister and Pumpkin are interested in them too, and frequently ask me how my sewing/craft work is going! I love the fact they are seeing there Mum doing some thing worthwhile, they always seem so pleased when I show them what I have been working on. Maybe its just kids and the unconditional love they have for you!

Anyway, time to sit and relax Hubby has just brought me a cup of tea and a apple and cream turnover! Ah the small things. Bx
